Stony Brook Makes It 22 Consecutive Wins Over Maine

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's basketball team continued its impressive run of dominance against Maine tonight as the Seawolves won their 22nd game in a row against their old America East foe 71-60 Saturday at home.

The winning streak dates all the way back to February 12, 2011.

How It Happened

  • Rob Brown III got things started less than 20 seconds in as his first bucket as a Seawolf was for three. A minute later, Erik Pratt, making his first appearance of the season, scored his first points in Stony Brook to make it 7-2.
  • After Maine cut the lead to 9-7, Collin O'Connor had an and-one at 15:44 to make it 12-7, before Tomas Valentiny drained a three to make it an eight-point game.
  • Pratt would continue to lay it on in the paint as he scored six-straight points on a trio of layups to give Stony Brook a 23-11 lead with just over 12 minutes left in the half.
  • Strong defense led by a trio of blocks from Richard Goods, Oleg Kojenets, and Tomas Valentiny helped keep the lead in double digits well into the final 10 minutes of the half. The Black Bears, however, got back within three as a 9-0 run made it 27-24 with under six to play.
  • Stony Brook's newcomers got the offense back on track in the waning minutes of the half, as Kojenets, Brown III, Goods, and Pratt accounted for all 10 of the team's points, including the first triple of the day from Pratt, as the Seawolves went into halftime with a slim 38-37 lead.
  • Pratt and Brown III stayed hot into the second half as the former opened up scoring with a jumper at 18:22, while the latter drained another three at 16:57 to grow the lead to 43-37. An alley-top by Goods at 15:08 would keep it a six-point game as the Black Bears totaled just two points in the first five minutes.
  • Halfway through the set the Seawolves' defense remained sturdy, holding Maine to only six points as the team built a 51-44 lead with 10 minutes on the clock. A minute later, another dunk from Goods would get the lead back in double figures at 56-46.
  • Over the final nine minutes, the Seawolves' defense took over and successfully held off the Black Bears to close out the 71-60 victory.

Stats and Notes

  • Pratt was already into double figures at the end of the first half as he totaled 12 points through 20. He would end the night with a team-high 19 points.
  • Also putting up solid numbers was Brown III who totaled 16 points, bringing him to 988 in his career.
  • Defensively, Goods led the way with 11 rebounds. Along with his 12 points, he secured his first career double-double tonight. He also paced the Seawolves with four assists and two blocks.
