STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Seawolves stay perfect at Stony Brook Arena as they moved to 6-0 at home on the season after a commanding 78-55 win over Central Michigan on Saturday.
With this win, Stony Brook has already matched its 2024-25 win total in just 11 games; 20 fewer than last season.
How It Happened
- The Seawolves came out to a 5-0 start through the first two minutes, starting with a free throw from Oleg Kojenets in his first start of the season. After the Chippewas got on the board at 17:51, Rob Brown III and Erik Pratt immediately responded with another five points, prompting an early timeout from CMU at the 17-minute mark.
- A pair of threes from Andrej Shoshkikj soon extended the lead to 17-4 with 13 minutes remaining. Jonah Butler would follow up with the fourth Stony Brook three-pointer of the day at 11:25 to make it 20-9. Butler and Pratt each picked up another three-pointer and a layup over the next four minutes as the Seawolves doubled up the Chippewas 32-16.
- Stony Brook continued to lay it on as buckets from Brown and Tomas Valentiny made it 17-straight points as the Seawolves took a 41-16 lead with just under four to play. Even with CMU ending the run, Stony Brook still carried a massive 44-22 lead into the locker room.
- Five minutes into the half, Shoshkikj added another six points to his total to reach double figures and to keep it a 22-point game. Two minutes later, Valentiny would become the third Seawolf to record multiple three-pointers today as he drained his second to make it 55-34 with 13 to play.
- CMU was able to take advantage of some foul and turnover trouble by the Seawolves to go on an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to 14 with less than eight minutes remaining. Shoshkikj was able to get momentum back in Stony Brook's favor, though, with another triple and a driving layup 30 seconds apart to regrow the lead to 64-45.Â
- With just over five minutes left, Brown drained the 10th Seawolves three-pointer of the day to once again make it a 20-point game at 67-47. From there, Stony Brook cruised to victory as Leon Nahar, Andrew Okafor, Liam Dagostino, and Jake Harbatkin were brought in to close out the 78-53 victory.
