ELON, N.C. – The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team continued their offensive prowess on Friday evening as they rolled to a 18-8 victory over Elon en route to a 5-0 record in CAA action. The Seawolves were paced by
Charlotte Wilmoth and
Riley McDonald who both eclipsed their 200
th career points against the Phoenix.
Offensively, Wilmoth scored a team-high five goals and two assists, while McDonald added four goals and three assists for the Stony Brook squad.
Isabella Caporuscio tallied a career-high five assists as
Alexandra Fusco,
Casey Colbert,
Courtney Maclay, and
Haydin Eisfeld each lent a hand in scoring for the Seawolves.
Defensively,
Avery Hines notched a team-high six ground balls and five caused turnovers as
Braeden Siverson had another career day, winning 11 draw controls for the third time this season. In net,
Natalia Altebrando made six saves on a .385 save percentage through 60 minutes of play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as the Seawolves scored five goals through the first quarter courtesy of McDonald, Maclay, Colbert, and a pair from Wilmoth.
Elon was able to piece together some offense through the second quarter, as the Seawolves still outscored the Phoenix taking a 10-4 lead into the break.
A 7-0 run would take place through the third quarter and into the fourth as A. Fusco would fuel the dominant offensive display. The Phoenix would respond with two goals to close out the contest as the Seawolves secured their fifth CAA victory.
STATS AND NOTES
- Charlotte Wilmoth recorded her 200th career point after a five goal, two assist performance. This was her 11th multi-goal game of the season.
- Riley McDonald also registered her 200th career point after a four goal, three assist outing, notching a team-high 12 multi-goal games.
- Isabella Caporuscio was a play maker through and through, dishing out a career and team-high five assists.
- Alexandra Fusco matched her career-high with three goals, adding a pair of ground balls, and one caused turnover.
- Stony Brook now holds a 24-game winning streak in conference and conference tournament games as a member of the CAA.
- The Seawolves improve to 4-0 all-time against the Phoenix.
NEXT UP
The Seawolves conclude their three-game road trip at Campbell on Sunday, April 13 at 11 a.m. Stony Brook won the lone contest in program history against the Fighting Camels last season, 21-3.
