STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball team fell this afternoon William & Mary as the Tribe rode an early lead to a 15-0 decision at Joe Nathan Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Right-hander Ty Panariello got the start for the Seawolves, working around early traffic. After a leadoff double, he recorded two quick outs before the Tribe struck with a two-out triple to take a 1-0 lead. Stony Brook responded with three straight fly outs in their first trip to the plate.
- William & Mary added another two-out run in the second inning with an RBI double. The Seawolves continued to battle at the plate but were retired in order again.
- In the third inning, the Tribe pushed across two more runs on three hits and an error. Brett Davino tallied Stony Brook's first hit of the game with a single up the middle, though he was left aboard.
- Vincent Mariella entered out of the bullpen to start the fourth and navigated through a bases-loaded, one-out jam without allowing a run. He induced a fielder's choice at home and a groundout to second to keep the deficit at 4-0.
- The Seawolves looked to build momentum in the fourth as Erik Paulsen was hit by a pitch and stole second base, but he was stranded to end the inning.
- William & Mary extended its lead with three runs in the fifth and seven more in the sixth. Matthew Jackson provided a spark off the bench with a pinch-hit single in the sixth inning, but the Seawolves were unable to capitalize.
- Scott Gell also delivered a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning, and Alex Jankowski closed the game on the mound with a scoreless 0.2 inning.
