SPARKS, Md. – Stony Brook women's lacrosse alumnus Ally Kennedy '21 was selected to represent the United States in the women's lacrosse competition at The World Games 2025 in China later this summer.

12 players, including Kennedy, were chosen following a training camp involving 26 of the best women's lacrosse players in the world at USA Lacrosse headquarters last week.

The U.S. roster features five players from the most recent U.S. women's field championship team as Sam Apuzzo, Kennedy, Ally Mastroianni, Marie McCool and Charlotte North helped the U.S. win the World Lacrosse Women's Championship in 2022 in Towson, Md. Six of the 12 players also won World Lacrosse championships in 2024: Shea Dolce (U20), Kennedy (Box), Mastroianni (Box), Taylor Moreno (Box), North (Box) and Madison Taylor (U20).

The World Games, a quadrennial Olympic-style event, utilizes the sixes discipline of the sport, a fast-paced, small-sided version of lacrosse that includes just six players for each team on the field at a time, resulting in smaller roster sizes than the traditional field version of the game.
 
This edition of The World Games will feature up to 5,000 athletes competing in 34 sports and will feature women's lacrosse as a medal sport for the third time. There will be no men's competition at The World Games this year. The United States won the inaugural World Games gold medal in 2017, beating Canada 11-8 in the championship game of a full-field 10v10 format in Wroclaw, Poland. In 2022, Canada beat the U.S. 14-12 in the championship game in the sixes discipline in Birmingham, Alabama.

Kennedy and Team USA will gather for a staging camp in Los Angeles from Aug. 1-3 before heading to Chengdu, China for The World Games from Aug. 7-11.
