STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's lacrosse head coach Joe Spallina has announced the addition of Reese Hjertaas and Keira Martin, both Limestone University transfers set to join the Seawolves' roster ahead of the 2026 season.

Hjertaas comes to Stony Brook after spending the previous three seasons with the Saints where she was an IWLCA All-Region Second Team selection and two-time All-SAC First Team honoree. During the 2024-25 season, she led the South Atlantic Conference with 83 total points, finishing third overall in goals (59).

"We are really excited to add Reese to our team. She is an explosive goal scorer and one of the top Division II players in the country," Spallina said. "She is going to be a big-time addition."

Hjertaas has had an unbelievable trio of seasons at Limestone, appearing and starting in all 55 games throughout her career. She totaled 183 points on 136 goals and 47 assists, while adding 76 ground balls, 47 draw controls, and 39 caused turnovers for the Saints.

"Limestone was an amazing opportunity but when one door closes, another opens," Hjertaas said. "Thank you to all my coaches and I'm excited to take it to the next level!"

Martin joined Hjertaas in making the switch from Limestone to Stony Brook after playing two seasons with the Saints. She was a two-time All-SAC selection, while finishing second in league and team scoring.

"Keira is a dynamic playmaker that will instantly impact our team," Spallina said. "She is a player that has the ability to take games over and we're happy to have her at Stony Brook."

Martin has played and started in all 39 games at Limestone during her two-year tenure, tallying 115 points on 85 goals and 30 assists, along with 62 ground balls, 47 draw controls, and 23 caused turnovers.

"I chose Stony Brook because I wanted to be a part of a program that has a winning culture where I can be challenged to become the best player I can be. I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to play at the next level," Martin said. "This experience has taught me that when one door closes, another one opens. Go Seawolves!"

The duo of transfers along with 10 incoming freshmen will build out Spallina's recruiting class for the 2026 season.
