STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook fell in the 2025 season opener to UMass Lowell, 4-2, on Thursday at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Linn Beck and Reilly Rich both tallied goals early in the second half to put the Seawolves in front, but the River Hawks scored three unanswered goals to put the contest away.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass Lowell grabbed a 1-0 lead when Marissa Sage scored in the seventh minute, assisted by Maddie Guthrie.
The Seawolves leveled the match on a goal from Rich in the 50th minute, assisted by Hedvig Helling and Hannah Maracina. Stony Brook then busted up the 1-1 draw on Linn Beck's goal minutes later,. Emanuelly Ferreira had the primary assist on Beck's tally.
The River Hawks rallied to knot things up at 2-2 with a 56th-minute goal from Kiera Fitzpatrick, assisted by Nuala Rodgers. UMass Lowell broke the tie and took a 3-2 lead on Anneliese Collin's goal in the 65th minute, assisted by Nadja Andersen and Guthrie. The River Hawks' advantage grew to 4-2 thanks to an 81st-minute goal from Gaby Eckroth, assisted by Guthrie.
