STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Led by an impressive two-goal performance from Reilly Rich, the Seawolves came back from an early deficit today at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium and topped Quinnipiac 3-1 to secure their first victory of the season.
With their first win of 2025 in tow, Stony Brook improves to 1-2-0 to start the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinnipiac quickly took a 1-0 lead in just the fifth minute of the match when Milena Branco scored on the team's first shot of the day. She was assisted by Molly Andrews and Addyson Earl. Despite the fast start, though, this would prove to be all the offense the Bobcats would get as Jona Hennings and the Seawolves defense blanked them over the next 85 minutes, allowing just one more shot on goal.
In the 21st minute, Stony Brook tied things up on a goal from Linn Beck, with Sammy Hannwacker and Hedvig Helling picking up the assists.
With the score still tied 1-1 at the start of the second half, Reilly Rich came up with her first goal of the day as she put the Seawolves in front in the 54th minute. Later, with the clock winding down and less than 10 minutes left to play, Rich put the game away for good at 81:06 as she came up with a deep pass from Kristina Garcia and found the back of the net for the second time of the half.
STATS AND NOTES
- This marked the fifth multi-goal game of Rich's career and her first of the season. Her second goal of the day was the 25th of her career.
