STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook secured a 2-1 victory over La Salle on Sunday at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Taylor Steinagel opened the scoring with the first goal of her collegiate career and Hannah Maracina notched her first tally of the season, which proved to be the difference maker in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook controlled possession for much of the first half, going forward and wreaking havoc in the attacking third. The scoring began when Steinagel found a loose ball during a scramble in the box, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career in the 12th minute. Angelina Lent and Reilly Rich were credited with assists. La Salle's keeper made a pair of saves in the first half to keep it a one-goal game through 45 minutes of play.
The Seawolves tacked on another goal when Hannah Maracina put a left-footed shot into the back of the net after Hedvig Helling's initial shot was saved. The goal was Maracina's first of the season and was assisted by Helling and Leah Rifas.
La Salle pushed through and got on the board to make it a 2-1 game on Justyce Hollenbach's 76th-minute goal. The Seawolves held off a late push from the Explorers to close out their second straight victory in front of the home crowd.
