Zeno Shines as Seawolves Take Season Opener vs. CCSU

STONY BROOK, NY - In the 2025 season opener, the Stony Brook volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-14, 25-16) over the Central Connecticut Friday at Pritchard Gymnasium.

In her collegiate debut, Aajaylah Zeno paced the Seawolves with 11 kills, including the match winner. Meanwhile, veteran Kali Moore registered a double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Seawolves won the first point of the match and never looked back to secure the first set 25-12. Stony Brook opened up its biggest lead, 13 points, to finish off the set, collecting 17 kills along the way. Moore and Zeno each racked up six kills in the first set, while Ava Zamore also recorded her first career kill on a setter dump.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Stony Brook put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-14 victory in set number two. With the match tied 1-1, the Seawolves went on their longest scoring run of the day with 10 unanswered to quickly put the set out of reach of the Blue Devils. Eventually, Stony Brook's lead reached 14 points at 21-7. The team also picked up its first three blocks of the day late in the set, courtesy of Zeno, Moore, Ayanna Pierre Louis, and Mercedes Motton.

SET 3 | Stony Brook did not let up in the final set as the Seawolves took another early lead en route to a 25-16 victory. The set started off much closer than the first two, with CCSU keeping it tied 7-7 early on, only for the Seawolves to take the lead back at 8-7 and hold it for good. Maintaining an 18-13 lead, Stony Brook rattled off five-straight points, including three blocks and a kill from Motton, to make it 23-13. With match point in sight, Zeno capped off the night with her 11th and final kill.

» Moore registered a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high 18 digs
» Stony Brook never trailed in either the first or second set.
» In her first ever match, Zeno led the way for the Seawolves with 11 kills.
» Stony Brook attackers were helped by a match-high 28 assists from Zamora.
