STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's lacrosse head coach
Joe Spallina announced another transfer addition in Katie Walsh to the Seawolves' roster for the 2026 season.
Walsh comes to Stony Brook after a pair of seasons at Rider University, where she was named to both the All-MAAC First and Second Team. This past season, she led the Broncos with 59 points on 54 goals and five assists, while finishing top five in the conference in goals per game (3.00). She also led the team and was second in the MAAC with 114 draw controls.
"We are really excited to add a player like Katie," Spallina noted. "She's an experienced pure goal scorer and will be a huge impact to our lineup. Stony Brook fans are going to love her!"
Walsh appeared in 34 games at Rider, notching 97 goals and 16 assists during her career. She added 203 draw controls, 69 ground balls, and 25 caused turnovers to her statistical output for the Broncs.
"Going to Stony Brook doesn't mean only to play for a stellar Division I women's lacrosse program, rather, it is an opportunity for me to pursue a further education in my graduate studies with excellence while competing at the highest athletic level," Walsh said. "This opportunity at Stony Brook provides me with unique resources and training, also creating both personal and professional growth. It's a once in a lifetime chance for me to help contribute to the team's success and build lasting relationships within a driven, supportive community that I know Stony Brook has to offer."
A quartet of transfers, including Walsh, Emma Pearce,
Reese Hjertaas, and
Keira Martin, along with 10 incoming freshmen will round out Spallina's recruiting class for the 2026 season.
