STONY BROOK, N.Y. – After logging her first career hat trick against Yale, Stony Brook's
Reilly Rich captured National Player of the Week honors from TopDrawerSoccer.com on Tuesday.
Rich propelled Stony Brook past one of the top teams in the Ivy League, 5-3, on Thursday behind a three-goal showing on Long Island. The Ilion, N.Y., native opened the scoring for the Seawolves with a left-footed strike on the doorstep in the 24th minute. Rich found herself in the national spotlight with her second goal of the contest as she bent a shot into the top right corner from 25 yards out to earn the fourth spot on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 last week. The graduate forward completed the hat trick with a 75th-minute goal on a cross-body shot at the top of the box that found the right side of the twine.
The Seawolves' leading scorer has notched eight goals through eight matches to pace the CAA and rank third in the nation. Her 18 points and 2.5 shots on frame per game are also fifth in NCAA Division I. Rich's scoring abilities have led Stony Brook to an average of 2.8 goals per game, which sits 15
th in the country.
