STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook earned its second shutout of the season on Sunday as the Seawolves blanked Elon 1-0 at home at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Reilly Rich had the decisive goal on a PK in the second half.
How it Happened
Both teams had chances to score late in the first half, as Linn Beck logged the first shot on goal for either team at 32:33, followed by Elon's first shot on goal from Ashlee Brehio with 40 seconds left in the half. Early on, Stony Brook had a prime opportunity to score with four shots in the span of a minute starting at 17:04, but none found the back of the net.
After a quiet start to the second half, Rich's opportunity finally presented itself after she was fouled in the box in the 59th minute. On the penalty kick, she promptly buried it in the right side of the goal to break the stalemate and provide the Seawolves with all the offense they would need.
