WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Stony Brook fell to Monmouth, 3-1, on Sunday in West Long Branch, New Jersey. The Seawolves saw their streak of eight straight matches without a loss snapped, falling to a conference foe for the first time since September 26, 2024.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Hannah Maracina scored just nine minutes into the contest. Angelina Lent played a ball up behind the defense that was misplayed by Monmouth's keeper, allowing Maracina in alone behind the defense for an easy score. Reilly Rich had a pair of tries sail wide as Stony Brook tried to expand its lead early on.
12 minutes after Maracina's icebreaker, the Hawks evened the match on a goal from Summer Reimet. Monmouth then broke the 1-1 draw on Evangeline Perdomo's 39th-minute goal. Monmouth carried the one-goal advantage into the halftime break.
The Hawks padded their lead just four minutes into the second half, going ahead 3-1 on Reimet's second goal of the afternoon. Stony Brook had just one shot on goal in the second half, eventually falling on the road at Monmouth.
STATS AND NOTES
- Maracina's goal was her fourth of the regular season and her first during conference play.
- Jona Hennings recorded three saves for the Seawolves out of 14 total Hawks shots.
- Stony Brook was limited to just two shots on goal in the loss.
- The Seawolves had previously earned a result in eight consecutive matches. The loss to Monmouth marked Stony Brook's first against a conference opponent since September 26, 2024.
