Seawolves Stay Hot with Dominant Win Over Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. - The Seawolves made it three wins in a row on Thursday as they began their road trip with a commanding 95-80 win at Northeastern.

How It Happened

  • Andrej Shoshkikj picked up right where he left off last week and quickly racked up two buckets from behind the arc and a layup in the opening minutes to give the Seawolves an 8-3 lead. Through the first five and a half minutes of the night, the Seawolves were already 5-for-7 from deep as Shoshkikj, Rob Brown III, and Tomas Valentiny all added another three to make it 17-5.
  • After the Huskies cut the lead down to seven with 12 minutes to play, Shoshkikj knocked down his fourth triple of the evening, followed by the first from Ethan Simmon to regrow the lead to 25-12.
  • With just under eight to go, Stony Brook's lead grew to 31-17 as Simmon and Jonah Butler kept to threes coming as the team reached nine on the night. Simmon would later drain his third and the team's 10th a 4:12 to keep it a 14-point game.
  • Despite fast-break layup and an impressive poster from Richard Goods, the Seawolves started losing ground to the Huskies over the final four minutes as they eventually found themselves leading just 47-40 at the end of the half.
  • After an opening jumper from Quin Gorman, Stony Brook's lead further shrunk to just one point after two minutes as the Huskies went on an 8-0 run to make it 49-48. Two minutes later, Northeastern managed to tie up the game for the first time at 52-52.
  • Following a quiet first half, Erik Pratt swung the momentum back in Stony Brook's favor by scoring eighth of its next 10 over the next three minutes to make it a five-point game again.  The Huskies' continued to lose steam as the Seawolves soon went on an 11-0 run featuring another five points from Pratt to get the lead back into double digits at 72-59 with nine minutes to play.
  • The Seawolves continued to pull away as triples from Valentiny and Simmon made it a 15-point game with six to play. Buckets from Pratt and Valentiny would soon give Stony Brook its largest lead of the night at 91-72 with just under three remaining. With a 19-point cushion, the Seawolves cruised through the final three minutes to claim their third straight victory.
