BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Seawolves won their fourth game in a row on Thursday as they held on for their first ever win over Campbell with a 81-69 victory.
How It Happened
- Erik Pratt and Andrej Shoshkikj provided all of the scoring through the opening five minutes for the Seawolves, combining for 11 points as Stony Brook trailed 15-11 early.
- Following buckets from Rob Brown III and Tomas Valentiny, Ethan Simmon would come up with the steal and the score to knot the game up at 17-17 with 13 to play. Simmon would then follow up a minute later with his first three-pointer to give Stony Brook its first lead of the night at 20-19.
- The lead would change hands four more times over the next three minutes, with the Seawolves eventually gaining the upper hand with six-straight points from Jonah Butler, Richard Goods, and Simmon to extend the lead to 31-26 with seven minutes remaining. Quin Gorman would come in and drain his first of the day from beyond the arc to make it an eight-point game with five minutes on the clock, before Butler grew it to 10 points with a dunk.
- The Fighting Camels managed to pull within five by the end of the half, though, after going on an 8-3 run over the closing minutes of the period.
- Three and a half minutes into the half, Campbell retook the lead at 49-46 as the team continued its offensive run from the end of the first. A layup from Shoshkikj at 15:37 would briefly put the Seawolves back in front, before both teams proceeded to trade leads over the next couple of minutes.
- Goods, who began the half with a three, made his third of the night with just over 13 minutes remaining to grow the lead to four. Shoshkikj followed up a minute later with his second triple to make it 59-54.
- Holding on to a three-point lead with under eight minutes left, Goods personally grew the lead back to seven following a second-chance layup and a dunk. From there, the lead would hold steady for the next few minutes, until Butler knocked down a massive three with 2:51 left to grow the lead to 74-65.
- Over the final 90 seconds, Shoshkikj went to the line three times and made all six free throws to hand the Seawolves a 13-point lead to secure the victory.
Stats and Notes
- Pratt made it 16 consecutive games in double figures and 20 total on the season after leading the team with 19.
- As for Shoshkikj, he posted his ninth game in double figures with 19 points as well, while Goods had his eighth game in double figures with 15.
- Butler reached double figures for the third time in his career with an even 10 today. He also set a new season-high with eight rebounds to pace the team.
