Seawolves Secure Postseason Berth With Victory Over Northeastern

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Stony Brook women's soccer carved out a 2-0 victory over Northeastern on Sunday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, clinching a spot in the CAA Women's Soccer Championship. Lisa Muller and Emily Lemke each converted on penalty kicks to account for Sunday's scoring.

It was a chippy, back-and-forth contest on Sunday afternoon at LaValle. The first half saw the two sides combine for 16 fouls and three yellow cards issued. The aggressive nature of play created Stony Brook's first goal of the afternoon after Emily Lemke was taken down inside the box in the 27th minute. Lemke stepped forward and converted from the penalty dot, blasting a right-footed shot into the upper right corner.

Jona Hennings faced just one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes, making the save. The Seawolves defense held off the Huskies to carry the lead into the intermission. Hennings turned away the first shot she faced in the second half to maintain Stony Brook's lead before the Seawolves extended the advantage on their second penalty kick of the afternoon. This time it was Maya Corbett who was fouled in the box, providing a second spot-kick opportunity for Stony Brook in the 83rd minute. The Seawolves sent Lisa Muller to the dot, who converted to pad the lead.

Hennings made a pair of saves in the closing moments to secure the clean sheet and help clinch the Seawolves a postseason berth. Stony Brook closes out the regular season on the road at Hofstra on Sunday, November 1 with a chance to improve its postseason positioning.
