TOWSON, Md. — Stony Brook fell 4-0 on the road at Towson on Sunday afternoon. The Seawolves allowed three first-half goals and never recovered, falling to the Tigers in their lone contest of the week.
Towson struck early, finding the back of the net on a left-footed shot from distance through a crowd that Stony Brook's keeper Jona Hennings never had a good look at. Minutes later, the Tigers scored off a set piece from the corner. Hennings sprawled to make a desperation kick save on the initial Towson try, but it bounded out to another Tiger that guided the rebound into the back of the net to put Stony Brook down 2-0 in the 17th minute.
Towson turned in a third first-half goal, again off a corner, in the 32nd minute. The third Towson goal came cleanly off of the setpiece, finding a Tigers' head directly off of the corner.
Coming out of the intermission trailing by three goals, Stony Brook conceded a fourth goal less than seven minutes into the second half. Towson netted its fourth goal of the contest and its third straight via a set piece. Fed in off of the corner, it again cleanly found the head of a Towson attacker and left Hennings with little chance to turn it away.
Following the fourth Towson goal, Stony Brook mustered just two shots on goal and were unable to find the back of the net. With the result, the Seawolves fell to 4-2-5 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.
Stony Brook returns to action with a pair of pivotal home contests against Hampton (Oct. 8) and William & Mary (Oct. 11) this week.
