WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - With only three games left in the regular season, the Seawolves dropped a close one down at the Jersey Shore on Thursday as they could not comeback in an 82-69 loss to Monmouth.
Stony Brook is now 0-2 in the season series with the Hawks.
How It Happened
- Both teams began the night shooting from deep, as each team knocked down two from behind the arc in the opening five minutes. Rob Brown III and Andrej Shoshkikj did the honors for the Seawolves to hold the Hawks to a 10-6 advantage early on, only for Monmouth to go on a 7-0 run and take a 20-7 lead just over seven minutes in.
- After Erik Pratt broke the run with a jumper at 12:24, the Hawks came right back with another seven in a row to go up 27-9 with 11 minutes to go. Shoshkikj would get Stony Brook back on the board with the steals and the bucket, only for Monmouth to respond with another triple.
- With under seven minutes remaining, the Hawks only continued to add to their lead as the Seawolves soon found themselves trailing 40-18. By the end of the half, Stony Brook had managed to cut the deficit down from 22 to 14 as Pratt and Oleg Kojenets combined for seven unanswered to make it 49-35.
- Brown started the half off by going 3-for-3 on three-pointers in the first four minutes to further shrink the lead down to 11 as he made it 55-44. A minute later, Richard Goods would make it an eight-point game after cutting to the net for the alley-oop and making the free throw after getting fouled.
- At 11:03, Tomas Valentiny made his first three of the night to further chip away at the lead and make it 57-50. Then, at 9:29, Brown would get it all the way down to a five-point game with the second-chance layup.
- This would prove to be as close as the Seawolves would get to tying the game, however, as a 13-2 Hawks run extended their lead back to 16 with five minutes to play, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Stats and Notes
- Pratt was tied for the team lead in points with 14 today, giving him 26 double-digit scoring games this year and bringing his season total to 543, good for the second highest by a Seawolf in the last 10 seasons behind only Tyler Stephenson-Moore's 547 back in 2023-24.
- Brown III also had 14 points today to reach 14 double-digit scoring games. He would tie with Kojenets for the team lead in rebounds with five.
