STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Seawolves got back in the win column on Saturday as they led for nearly the entire game in a 65-55 win over Northeastern for the second time this year on Children's Hospital Day.
How It Happened
- Both teams were held scoreless through the opening three minutes of the game, shooting a combined 0-for-9 from the field. The Huskies would strike first with back-to-back threes at 16:20, but the Seawolves soon made it a one-point game after buckets from Rob Brown III and Tomas Valentiny two minutes later.
- It would remain a low scoring affair over the next few minutes as it stayed 6-5 until 10:19 when Northeastern slightly increased their lead to 8-5 with a layup.
- Andrej Shoshkikj gave the Seawolves their first lead of the day with just over nine minutes remaining as he came up with the offensive rebound and drained it for three. Ethan Simmon followed up a minute later with his first triple to make it 13-8. Jonah Butler then went 3-for-4 from the line to extend the lead to 16-8 with under seven to go.
- Stony Brook's lead soon grew to double digits as Simmon added another triple and Valentiny came through with a layup and a dunk to make it 23-11 by the five minute mark.
- Erik Pratt got on the board in the final minutes of the half with a pair of layups to help keep it a double-digit lead by the end of the period at 29-19.
- Pratt led the charge at the start of the second half with seven points in the first five minutes to grow the lead to 41-25. Later, an alley-oop from Richard Goods followed by another jumper from Pratt would make it a 19-point game with 14 to play.
- Shoshkikj and Butler would each add five more points to keep the Seawolves in front 55-36 through the first 10 minutes.
- Northeastern was unable to respond to slow down the Seawolves as Stony Brook maintained a sizable lead throughout the final 10 minutes, thanks in part to two more dunks from Goods. With two minutes to go and Stony Brook leading 65-47, the team emptied the bench as Liam Dagostino, Andrew Okafor, Jake Harbatkin, Leon Nahar, and Toby Onyekonwu all came in to close out the victory.
Stats and Notes
- Pratt recorded his 22nd double-digit scoring game of the season with a team-high 13.
- Shoshkikj posted his 12th game in double figures as he and Butler finished with 10 apiece. He also set a new season high with four steals.
