With 5:45 remaining in the first quarter, Rutgers would draw first blood to take the early lead on the lone goal of the quarter.

A few minutes later, Eisfeld converted on another free-position opportunity, scoring to make things even at 2-2. With 6:02 remaining in the third quarter, Stony Brook took its first lead of the day after a nice goal on the move from
Isabella Caporuscio. Rutgers answered back with a goal in the closing moments of the third quarter, making it a 7-7 game going into the final quarter of play.
The two teams traded free-position goals inside the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, as the game remained tied at 8-8.
