MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — Despite a late comeback to force extra innings, the Seawolves were unable to go the distance at Charleston today as they were bested 5-4 in 10 innings in game two of the series on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stony Brook starter Hunter Colagrande was lights out through the first four innings today, allowing just two hits while striking out eight.
- The Seawolves offense backed him up with the first run of the day for either team in the top of the fourth when James Schaefer singled to left and brought home Matthew Jackson.
- Then, in the top of the fifth, Stony Brook added another run as Aidyn Coffey led off the inning with a hit by pitch, before stealing second and coming around to score on a single from Luke Szepek.
- The Cougars would come right back in the bottom of the fifth and take the lead, however, as a balk and a two-out rally led to three runs coming home.
- Following a scoreless sixth, the Seawolves tied the game up at 3-3 in the top of the seventh thanks to a two-out RBI single from Chris Carson.
- After Charleston plated an unearned run in the eighth, Stony Brook had one final chance to get back in the game in the top of the ninth. Nicholas Dromboski rose to the occasion by ripping a lead-off triple to center and coming around to score moments later on a groundout from Jackson.
- With the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, the Cougars loaded the bases with two outs, but reliever Christian Martinez was able to escape the jam and force extra innings.
- Despite a lead-off single from Mike Villani in the top of the 10th, the next three Seawolves would go down in order. The Cougars would ultimately take the day in the bottom of the 10th on a walk-off error.
