MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — The Seawolves were unable to close an early gap in the series finale at Charleston on Sunday as they went on to fall 6-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following two scoreless innings, Charleston struck first in the bottom of the third after sending nine batters to the plate and scoring three. The Cougars would extend the lead to four the next inning.
- The Seawolves got on the board in the top of the fifth after Jack Scheri and Luke Szepek led off the inning with back-to-back singles. With one out, Charleston pitcher Austin Wiegandt sent the ball into center field trying to pick off Scheri, allowing him to score all the way from second.
- Nicholas Rizzo, after allowing the run in the fourth, settled in and tossed two scoreless frames, retiring the side in order in the fifth and stranding two in the sixth.
- The Cougars plated two more in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-1 heading into the eighth.
- The Cougars added to their lead again in the bottom of the seventh, making it a 6–1 game heading into the eighth inning. Stony Brook managed to get one of the runs back that inning as Chanz Doughty ripped a lead-off home run to left, cutting the lead to four.
- This proved to be as close as the Seawolves would get, though, as the final six batters were set down in order.
