CHARLESTON, S.C. - Stony Brook women's basketball was defeated 66-43 on the road Thursday night by CAA-leading Charleston.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Things started slowly for both teams as defense-controlled play to begin the game, with both Stony Brook and Charleston forcing a plethora of first-quarter turnovers. Offense picked up in the final two minutes of the opening quarter as both sides traded baskets, making it a 12-12 game heading into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the lead flipped-flopped several times, as Stony Brook led 23-20 with under five minutes remaining in the first half after a three-pointer by
Diaka Berete. The Cougars then scored seven of the next eight points to go in front 27-24 heading into halftime.
Charleston opened the second half with a 9-1 run, extending its lead to 36-25 at the 5:47 mark of the third quarter. The Cougars' offense carried their momentum throughout the remainder of the quarter, making it a 53-33 game in their favor going into the final quarter.
The Seawolves did not pull any closer in the fourth, falling by a final score of 66-43.

- Berete scored a team-best 14 points for Stony Brook.
- The Seawolf defense forced 11 turnovers.
- Stony Brook held Charleston to just 20.7% from beyond the arc, as the Cougars shot just 6-of-29 from deep.
