HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- An early five-run inning proved too much to overcome as Stony Brook dropped Friday's matchup to Hofstra, 11-5, despite steady offensive efforts throughout the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Seawolves went scoreless in the first, Hofstra broke the game open with five runs in the bottom half of the inning on three hits and an error to take an early 5-0 lead.
- Stony Brook answered in the top of the second with two runs to cut the deficit to 5-2. Chanz Doughty led off the inning with a single and was later brought home on a double by Scott Gell. Aidyn Coffey capped the inning with an RBI single that scored Gell.
- Colagrande came back out and threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the third. Gell ended the inning by throwing out the final runner following a strikeout by Colagrande.
- Hofstra extended its lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the third with a three-run homer.
- Doughty singled and Jack Scheri walked in the top of the fourth, but Hofstra turned a double play to end the threat.
- Ty Panariello entered for the Seawolves in the bottom of the fourth and stranded a runner at second. After James Schaffer was left on base in the top of the fifth, Panariello worked around another baserunner in the bottom half to keep Hofstra scoreless in the inning.
- Nicholas Dromboski opened the sixth with a single and later scored on another base hit by Gell to make it 8-3.
- Hofstra added two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to extend the lead to 11-3.
- Stony Brook showed life in the eighth, as Luke Ciminiello led off with a single and came around to score on a triple by Paul Dulanto. Mike Cervoni followed with an RBI groundout to make it 11-5. That would be as close as the Seawolves would get, as the Pride secured the win Friday afternoon.
