STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Stony Brook women's lacrosse wrapped up nonconference play with a resounding 19-6 win over Arizona State on Wednesday night at LaValle Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves offense wasted little time opening the scoring with a goal by
Julia Fusco, a little over a minute into the game. This early 1-0 lead did not last, as the Sun Devils scored the next two goals, taking a 2-1 lead with 10:08 remaining in the first quarter. Following the pair of goals from Arizona State, Stony Brook generated good scoring chances, but just missed out as a pair of
Haydin Eisfeld shots hit off the post and crossbar. After just missing out on those chances, the Seawolves would break through in a big way, scoring the next five goals, giving them a 6-2 lead at the end of one quarter of play.
In the next quarter, each side traded a goal in the first few minutes, as Stony Brook now led 7-3. After this opening sequence, Stony Brook's offense once again took over. Just like the opening quarter, the Seawolves would rattle off five consecutive goals to end the second quarter, ballooning their lead to 12-3 at the half.
Fusco began the second half scoring, firing in her fifth goal of the day, and putting Stony Brook up 10, and starting the running clock. The Sun Devils notched the next two goals, but the Seawolves answered with two goals of their own to close out the third quarter. This included a highlight behind-the-back goal from
Isabella Caporuscio and a goal off a bounce by
Olivia Schorr, as Stony Brook led 15-5 going into the final quarter of play.
The Seawolves would tally another four goals in the final quarter, while Arizona scored one more, as Stony Brook wrapped up its decisive 19-6 win at LaValle Stadium.
