NEW YORK, N.Y. - Stony Brook jumped out in front by taking an early 3-0 lead after the top of the second inning, but a late surge from Columbia flipped the game as the Seawolves fell 8-4 on the road this afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Doughty got the Seawolves an early 1-0 lead with a solo blast over the left field fence with two outs in the top of the first inning.
- Dylan Henshaw made the start this afternoon and worked around a one-out double, getting back-to-back Lions to retire the side and keep the Seawolves in front.
- Stony Brook added two more runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. Luke Szepek singled, Johnny Pilla walked and Mike Cervoni reached on a single before RBI singles by James Schaffer and Nick Zampieron extended the advantage.
- Columbia responded with a two-run shot in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to one.
- After a scoreless top of the third for the Seawolves, the Lions put runners on first and second with one out, but Henshaw recorded back-to-back outs to hold the lead through three innings.
- Stony Brook went down in order in the fourth inning. Henshaw recorded the first out before Nicholas Rizzo entered and finished the final two outs of the frame.
- Columbia tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth. After two singles, the Lions brought in the tying run on a one-out sacrifice fly.
- Stony Brook answered in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. Doughty led off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a groundout by Carson. He came home on a groundout by Mike Villani to put the Seawolves back in front.
- After Rizzo allowed two baserunners with one out in the bottom of the sixth, Ty Panariello entered out of the bullpen and induced a ground ball double play with the bases loaded to keep the game tied.
- Columbia evened the score at 4-4 in the seventh, then broke it open with a grand slam later in the inning after Matthew Canizares entered the game. The surge gave the Lions an 8-4 lead and ultimately the win over Stony Brook.
