STONY BROOK, N.Y - Behind a seven-hit first inning and a multi-home run performance from
Chanz Doughty, Stony Brook rolled to a 15-5 win over Towson to open the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stony Brook came out swinging, opening the game with seven straight hits. Nicholas Dromboski got things started with a one-out single, and Chanz Doughty followed with his fifth home run of the season, sending a ball over the left field fence to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Matthew Jackson cleared the bases with a triple, and Mike Cervoni brought him home on a ground ball to cap a six-run frame.
- Hunter Colagrande got the start on the mound for the Seawolves. Towson answered in the bottom of the first with two runs, cutting the lead to 6-2 after one inning.
- Dromboski stayed hot in the second, launching his third home run of the season to extend the Stony Brook advantage to 7-2.
- Towson responded again in the bottom half, scoring three runs on three hits to make it 7-5. Aidan Colagrande entered out of the bullpen and, after a lightning delay, stranded the bases loaded with a fly out to right field to preserve the lead.
- Both teams were held scoreless in the third. A. Colagrande worked around a runner on second in the fourth to maintain the two-run edge.
- Mike Villani picked up a hit in the fifth, while A. Colagrande continued to deal on the mound, tossing the Seawolves' first 1-2-3 inning of the afternoon in the bottom half.
- In the sixth, Cervoni reached on a fielding error to lead off the inning and moved to second on a bunt from James Schaffer. An infield single by Zampieron put runners on the corners, and after he stole second, Dromboski delivered a two-RBI single. Doughty followed with his second home run of the day to push the lead to 11-5. Chris Carson capped the rally with a solo shot, giving Stony Brook a 12-5 advantage.
- Luca Mannino entered in the bottom of the sixth, issuing a leadoff walk before settling in and working through the inning, highlighted by a double play.
- After a scoreless top of the seventh for the Seawolves, Mannino returned to the mound and delivered another scoreless frame.
- In the eighth, Dromboski led off with a single, and after Carson was hit by a pitch, Scott Gell launched a three-run home run to extend the lead to 15-5.
- Mannino closed it out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth, securing the series-opening win for Stony Brook.
