Women's Lacrosse Downs Elon, Finishes Off Fourth Straight Perfect Regular Season in CAA

ELON, N.C. — Stony Brook women's lacrosse cruised to a 15-4 victory on the road at Elon on Friday evening, capping off a fourth consecutive unblemished conference season as a member of the CAA. Julia Fusco netted a hat trick and registered four points to lead all scorers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Elon opened the scoring and weathered the storm early to keep things even 2-2 more than halfway through the first quarter, but Stony Brook's offense netted a pair of goals to close the opening stanza to take a 4-2 lead. The Seawolves scored twice to open the second quarter and accounted for five of the quarter's six goals to build a healthy six-goal advantage, 9-3, heading into the intermission in North Carolina.

The Seawolves scored three times to start the second half, holding Elon scoreless for the entirety of the third quarter. Zoe Stonecipher's player-up goal started the fourth quarter and capped a 7-0 Stony Brook run that spanned three quarters, starting with 2:19 remaining in the first half. After holding the Phoenix scoreless for more than 30 minutes of game action, the Seawolves conceded a goal with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Stony Brook added two more goals in the final five minutes of action to close out an 11-goal win in the regular-season finale.
