TOWSON, Md. - Behind an early spark at the plate and a strong first CAA start from freshman
Dylan Henshaw, Stony Brook cruised to a 10-0 run-rule victory over Towson to secure the weekend series over the Tigers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nick Zampieron started the game with a walk for the Seawolves and later scored on a two-out single by Chris Carson to give Stony Brook an early 1-0 lead.
- Dylan Henshaw made his first CAA start of his collegiate career. The freshman worked around a one-out single and double, stranding Tigers at second and third base with back-to-back fly outs.
- After a scoreless top of the second for Stony Brook, the right-hander again worked out of trouble by stranding two runners on first and second with another fly out that kept the Seawolves ahead 1-0.
- The Seawolves started their attack in the top of the third with Carson hitting a solo home run in the inning. Jackson then ripped a double that brought home Mike Villani and Scott Gell to extend the lead to 4-0. Henshaw kept Towson quiet in the bottom half with two strikeouts and a runner left on first.
- Stony Brook stayed hot in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs to take an 8-0 lead. Following a leadoff single by Mike Cervoni, Zampieron later brought him in on an RBI single for the first run of the frame. Later in the inning, Gell cleared the bases with a double to give the Seawolves an eight-run advantage.
- Henshaw continued to deal in the bottom of the fourth, tossing a 1-2-3 inning in his final frame of work.
- Following a scoreless top of the fifth, Nicholas Rizzo entered out of the bullpen for the Seawolves and sat down the Tigers in order, ending the inning with a double play.
- Stony Brook added two more runs in the top of the sixth to make it 10-0. Zampieron and Carson both singled before Gell drew a bases-loaded walk, and Villani recorded a sacrifice fly that brought home Nicholas Dromboski.
- Rizzo worked around a leadoff baserunner in the bottom of the sixth by getting back-to-back fly outs and a strikeout to end the threat.
- Ty Panariello entered on the mound for the Seawolves, while Paul Daunto took over behind the plate for Gell. The duo retired the Tigers in order, sealing the 10-0 mercy-rule victory and a weekend series win for Stony Brook over Towson.
