FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Seawolves dropped a midweek matchup on the road on Tuesday afternoon, falling 11-5 to Sacred Heart after the Pioneers pulled away late.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seawolves took an early 1-0 advantage this afternoon after Nick Zampieron reached on an error, stole second and third base, then scored on a groundout from Mike Villani.
- Freshman Luca Mannino made his first collegiate start for the Seawolves today. The right-hander worked around a one-out single and stranded runners on the corners with a pop out to keep the early lead.
- Sacred Heart responded with two runs in the bottom half of the second inning before Evan Kay entered the game with the bases loaded and two outs. The sophomore recorded a strikeout to end the threat.
- After the Pioneers tallied a run in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to take a 4-1 advantage, Stony Brook answered with four runs of their own to take a 5-4 lead. Brett Davino reached on a hit by pitch to start the inning and later advanced to third after a double from Luke Ciminiello. Following a walk from Chris Carson, Davino scored on a wild pitch. Zampieron brought in Ciminello on a fielder's choice, Jack Scheri drew an RBI walk, and Nicholas Dromobski brought in Zamperion on a groundout to second base.
- Reilly Bridges came out of the bullpen for the Seawolves in the bottom of the fifth inning. After a leadoff single, Szepek erased the runner by throwing him out on a steal attempt at second base. Bridges later stranded two runners with a strikeout to keep the one-run lead through five innings.

- Sacred Heart extended their lead to 10-5 in the bottom of the eighth inning with a two-run homer. They added another run in the inning and held the Seawolves scoreless in the ninth to secure the 11-5 victory over Stony Brook.
