Women's Lacrosse Earns No. 5 Seed, Set to Host Stonehill in NCAA Tournament First Round

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The No. 11 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team earned a No. 5 seed and will host NEC Champion Stonehill in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament in Stony Brook, N.Y., on Friday, May 8, at 1 pm, as announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night.

Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium will also host the NCAA First Round game between Boston College and Yale on Friday, May 8, scheduled to follow the Stony Brook/Stonehill game. The winner of both games will face off in the NCAA Second Round on Sunday, May 10 at 12 pm at LaValle Stadium. All three contests will stream live on ESPN+.

Stony Brook won its fourth consecutive CAA Championship on Saturday. It marked a 12th straight conference championship, punching the Seawolves' ticket to the NCAA Tournament for a 13th consecutive season under the guidance of the CAA Co-Coach of the Year, Joe Spallina.

The Seawolves entered Selection Sunday at No. 4 in the NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse RPI and riding a nation-best 13-game winning streak. Stony Brook enters the NCAA Tournament at 17-2 overall, closing out the conference regular season with a perfect 7-0 mark. Including CAA Tournament play, the Seawolves outscored league foes 149-56. 

Stony Brook's two losses this season were to Northwestern (No. 1 RPI) and Johns Hopkins (No. 7 RPI) by a combined three goals. The Seawolves earned ranked wins against No. 15 Colorado, No. 19 Denver and No. 20 Princeton during non-conference play.

Four Seawolves captured CAA Women's Lacrosse Major Awards, while seven in total garnered All-CAA distinction. Isabella Caporuscio (Midfielder of the Year), Hailey Huebner (Defensive Player of the Year) and Mirabella Altebrando (Rookie of the Year) were all unanimously selected. Caporuscio was named the 2026 CAA Women's Lacrosse Championship Most Outstanding Player and is a Tewaaraton Award nominee.

Stony Brook boasts the sixth-best scoring defense (7.56 goals allowed per game) in the nation and the sixth-best scoring margin (+7.11) in the NCAA. The Seawolves' offensive unit is averaging 14.67 goals per game, the 12th-best mark in all of Division I.
