BROOKLINE, MASS. - The Stony Brook offense generated offense through 12 hits this afternoon, but Northeastern's fast start proved too much in a 12-3 series-opening loss on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Chanz Doughty recorded a two-out single for the Seawolves in the first inning but was left stranded to end the frame.
- Micah Worley made the start for Stony Brook on Friday afternoon. Northeastern struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Worley limited the damage by striking out the next two batters.
- After a 1-2-3 second inning from the Seawolves, the Huskies added another run in the bottom half to extend their lead to 2-0.
- Stony Brook threatened in the top of the third as James Schaffer and Nick Zampieron delivered back-to-back one-out singles to put runners on first and second. Nicholas Dromboski advanced both runners with a groundout, but Northeastern kept the Seawolves off the board with a fly out.
- The Huskies expanded their advantage to 7-0 after scoring three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth.
- Stony Brook answered in the top of the fifth, trimming the deficit to 7-2. Zampieron and Dromboski each singled before Chanz Doughty lined a two-run single through the left side to bring both runners home.
- Ty Panariello delivered the Seawolves' first scoreless inning in the bottom of the fifth, retiring Northeastern in order.
- The Seawolves added another run in the sixth. Mike Villani opened the inning with a leadoff single and later scored on a groundout by Mike Cervoni to make it 7-3. Northeastern responded with three runs in the bottom half to take a 10-3 lead.
- Dromboski opened the seventh inning with a double to right field and Chris Carson worked a walk, but a double play helped Northeastern escape the threat.
- Evan Kay tossed a scoreless seventh inning for Stony Brook, working a 1-2-3 frame with a strikeout.
- Matthew Jackson recorded a single in the eighth, but Northeastern added two more runs in the bottom half and secured the 12-3 win.
