Seawolves Fall in Saturday Contest at Northeastern

BROOKLINE, Mass. - Northeastern used a pair of big middle innings to pull away from Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon, handing the Seawolves a 15-0 setback in seven innings.



HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless top of the first for the Seawolves, John Rizzo made the start on the mound for Stony Brook and worked around a two-out single in the bottom half to keep Northeastern off the board.
  • Rizzo continued to battle in the second, allowing a one-out single before retiring the next two batters on a flyout and strikeout to end the inning.
  • With two outs in the top of the third, James Schaffer recorded Stony Brook's first hit of the afternoon. Nick Zampieron later reached on an error, but the inning came to an end on a pickoff.
  • Northeastern broke through in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs on five hits to build a 4-0 lead.
  • Chanz Doughty gave the Seawolves a spark in the fourth with a one-out ground-rule double to left field, marking Stony Brook's first extra-base hit of the game. Walks by Chris Carson and Mike Villani later in the inning created an opportunity, but the Huskies escaped the frame with a strikeout to keep the Seawolves scoreless. 
  • Rizzo responded with a scoreless bottom of the fourth, stranding another runner after a two-out single.
  • The Huskies extended their advantage in the fifth, scoring eight runs on six hits and one error to take a 12-0 lead.
  • Chris Carson singled in the top of the sixth for the Seawolves, but Northeastern added three more runs in the bottom half to secure the 15-0 run-rule victory in seven innings.
UP NEXT
The Seawolves will play their final game of the three game set tomorrow against the Huskies at 1:00 pm on FloCollege.
