STONY BROOK, N.Y. — No. 5-seeded Stony Brook women's lacrosse handled business with ease today, taking down Stonehill 19-5 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at LaValle Stadium, as six multi-goal scorers helped pave the way to the decisive opening round win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves, just like they have done pretty much all season long, wasted little time to get the scoring going, as
Haydin Eisfeld fired in a free-position goal just 58 seconds into play. Over the next three and a half minutes, Stony Brook scored another three goals, extending its lead to 4-0, not even five minutes into play. Keeping their early momentum going, the Seawolves would tack on another five goals to close out the first quarter with a commanding 9-0 lead.
Picking up where it left off, Stony Brook scored 43 seconds into the second quarter, putting it up 10 and starting the running clock. Each team then traded a goal apiece, as the Seawolves held an 11-1 lead over the Skyhawks with 9:49 remaining in the first half. After that, Stony Brook scored the final two goals of the half to go up by 12 at the break.
Katie Walsh opened the scoring in the third quarter with a goal on the move, converting on a tough shot in front of the net. Following that, each team would score two goals, as the Seawolves headed into the final quarter of play with a 16-3 advantage.
Stony Brook outscored Stonehill 3-2 in the final quarter, securing the 19-5 NCAA Tournament win with ease at LaValle Stadium.

- Today's first-round win was the Seawolves' 15th all-time win in the NCAA Tournament.

- Braeden Siverson secured 12 draw controls. helping her set the new program record for draw controls in a season at 155.
- The Seawolf defense held the Skyhawks to just five goals, as the unit has not allowed more than seven goals in the last six games.
- Stony Brook bested Stonehill in these key statistical categories: shots (49-20), shots on goal (30-9), caused turnovers (15-6), and draw controls (19-6).
