ALBANY, N.Y. — Stony Brook and UAlbany played to a 2-2 draw Sunday on the road at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. With the result, the Seawolves wrapped up non-conference play unbeaten.
Despite a combined 17 shots between the two sides across the opening 45 minutes of action, Stony Brook and UAlbany went into the half in a scoreless tie. Jona Hennings faced 11 first-half shots and made two saves to keep the Great Danes off the board.
Stony Brook broke the scoreless tie when Leah Rifas netted a goal in the 56th minute. Rifas put home a left-footed shot after the ball was knocked towards her at the top of the box. The Seawolves added to their lead in the 71st minute when Hedvig Helling raced past UAlbany's keeper to make it 2-0. Helling raced up the pitch and evaded the goalkeeper, controlling the ball and finishing on an empty net.
Suddenly down two goals, UAlbany did not waver. The Great Danes narrowed the gap to 2-1 with an 80th-minute goal. UAlbany rallied to knot things up at 2-2 with an 88th-minute goal, capping off a furious comeback in the waning moments to emerge with a result.
