Stony Brook Suffers First Setback on the Road at Elon

ELON, N.C. — Stony Brook women's soccer fell to Elon, 2-1, on the road in North Carolina on Thursday evening. The Seawolves suffered their first loss of the season, with Elon netting the game-winning goal in the 86th minute.

Stony Brook struck first in the opening half. Midway through the opening period, Hedvig Helling found space at the bottom of the box following an Elon giveaway and guided the ball into the net for the opening goal of the match. The strike lifted Stony Brook to a 1‑0 lead and was promptly followed by an Elon answer just a couple of minutes later. 

Jona Hennings made a pair of stops in the closing moments of the half to keep the match level, 1-1, as it headed to intermission.

The second period opened with chances for the Stony Brook attackers, but all of its attempts were turned away. Aggressive play led to fouls and free kick opportunities for the Seawolves, but Stony Brook could not convert. The Phoenix generated what proved to be the game‑winning strike in the 86th minute. A cross into the box pinged around after a corner and found the back of the net, giving Hennings little chance to make a stop.

A late push from Stony Brook was not enough to find an equalizer, seeing the Seawolves fall for the first time in 2026.
