BALTIMORE, Md. — The Stony Brook women's soccer team remain unbeaten, battling Loyola Maryland to a 0-0 draw on Thursday night at Ridley Athletic Complex. The result moved the Seawolves to 3-0-2 through their first five matches of the season.
The two sides were evenly matched throughout the opening 45 minutes, recording four shots apiece. Stony Brook generated its best stretch of pressure late in the half, beginning with
Juni Einarsson putting an attempt on frame in the 35th minute that was stopped by Loyola goalkeeper Goetzer.
The Seawolves continued to push before the break. Lisa Mueller registered an attempt in the 41st minute before
Camryn Goodman nearly broke the deadlock moments later, sending an effort off the right post.
Allison George followed with another shot in the 43rd minute, but the match remained scoreless heading into halftime.
Stony Brook maintained its offensive pressure in the second half, outshooting Loyola 5-4 over the final 45 minutes. Goodman put another attempt on target in the 67th minute, while
Hedvig Helling registered a pair of shots during the half.
Loyola threatened late, but goalkeeper
Jona Hennings and the Seawolves' back line kept the Greyhounds off the board. Hennings came up with a save in the final minute before Helling immediately answered with a shot on goal at the other end with 24 seconds remaining. Neither side could find the winner before the final whistle.
Stony Brook finished the night with a 9-8 advantage in shots and put three attempts on goal compared to Loyola's two. Helling led the Seawolves with three shots, while Goodman recorded two, including one on target. Hennings played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves to secure the clean sheet.
The scoreless draw extended Stony Brook's unbeaten start to five consecutive matches as the Seawolves moved to 3-0-2Â on the season.
