The Marist Red Foxes (22-12) posted a doubleheader
sweep of Stony Brook (3-23) on Wednesday afternoon, winning game one, 3-1,
and game two, 4-1.The Seawolves have now lost six in a row.
Stony Brook took a 1-0 lead in the first game as Stephanie Poetzsch doubled
home Christie McMurray in the second inning. However, Marist scored to tie it in the
fourth and won the game with two runs in the sixth. Poetzsch went 3-for-3 in the
game with a double and an RBI. She was credited with the loss on the mound,
pitching six innings and giving up three runs on four hits to fall to 2-12 on the
season.
In game two, the Red Foxes won the game with two runs in the second inning and
another pair in the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Stony Brook scored in the sixth as
Lauren Ruane singled home McMurray to make it 4-1. The Seawolves collected four
hits in the inning but could only score once. McMurray went 3-for-3 in the game with
a double and a run scored. Cassie Rupp went the distance on the mound, giving
up eight hits and four runs while striking out two.
