Stony Brook Edges Ohio State, 7-6

April 16, 2000

Kevin Pall scored three goals and Stony Brook held off a second-half Ohio State rally to post a thrilling 7-6 win at Seawolves Field on Sunday afternoon. Each team scored twice in the first quarter, but the Seawolves took control in the second stanza, scoring four unanswered goals. Sophomore middie Pall was the offensive catalyst, scoring three times in the quarter as SB built a 6-2 lead at the break. Pall's three goals gave him a team-leading 23 on the year and he now has nine multiple-goal efforts on the season.

In the second half, the Buckeyes rallied behind the outstanding play of Pat Myers. Myers, who finished with four goals on the day, scored twice in the third as OSU pulled within 6-5 heading into the final quarter. After Jesse Foss extended the lead to 7-5 for Stony Brook, Myers cut the lead to one with 6:08 remaining, setting the stage for a frantic final few minutes. With 1:59 left, Stony Brook goaltender John Dobias was whistled for a slashing penalty and sent to the sideline, replaced by backup Tom Bushy. On the ensuing man-up opportunity, the Buckeyes were able to get off two good shots, but Bushy made a key save to keep OSU off the scoreboard as the Seawolves held on for the victory.

The win improves Stony Brook's record to 3-8 on the year while Ohio State drops to 4-6. The Seawolves are in action again on Wednesday when they travel to Wagner. Face-off is 3:30 p.m.
