April 22, 2000

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Jesse Foss notched his first career hat trick to lead Stony Brook to an 8-5 win over Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon at Seawolves Field. The win was the third straight for Stony Brook which improves to 5-8 on the year while the Braves fall to 5-7.

Denis Scannell opened the scoring at 4:16 of the first quarter to give the Seawolves a 1-0 lead after one quarter. Mike Baglio evened the score at one early in the second stanza before goals by Foss and Brian Abrams gave the Seawolves a 3-1 advantage at the break.

The Braves rallied early in the third behind goals from Jeff Speed and Baglio to knot the game at three but Kevin Pall put the Seawolves ahead to stay at 7:44 of the third as he ran past his defender at the top of the restraining line and fired a line drive past T.J. Barnett for a 4-3 lead. Stony Brook extended the lead to 7-3 in the final period before Quinnipiac rallied once more, drawing within 7-5 with 3:19 remaining.

The Seawolves held on as Foss sealed the win with his third goal of the game at 1:47 of the fourth. Pall, the Seawolves' leading scorer, finished with two goals and an assist and John Dobias made nine stops to earn his fourth win of the year. Stony Brook is in action again on Wednesday when it travels to Manhattan for a non-conference matchup. Face-off is 3:30 p.m.
