HOMESTEAD, NY -
The University at Stony Brook baseball team continued its outstanding play in Florida Sunday afternoon with a pair of wins over Hartford and Vermont to run its record to 7-0 on the year. In the opener, the Seawolves earned a convincing 11-2 win versus Hartford and then followed that effort with a come-from-behind victory against Vermont.
Trailing 1-0 in the first game, catcher Craig Ansman got Stony Brook even when he
belted his second homer of the season. The Seawolves then broke the game open with
a five-run fifth inning and then added five more runs in the ninth to cruise to the win.
Kevin Willi was impressive in his Seawolf debut, hurling eight innings while yielding only
four hits and striking out eight to record his first collegiate win.
In the nightcap, Gregg Foster's two-run single in the eighth keyed a four-run outburst
that helped Stony Brook overcome a 6-5 deficit en route to a 9-6 victory. The Seawolves
got on top with two runs in the first inning but Vermont responded with four runs in the
bottom half of the inning to take the lead. Brian Keyes came on the middle innings to
pitch 3 2/3 innings of shutout ball to earn the win. First baseman C.J. Lutz continued his
torrid hitting, going 3-5 from the plate and driving in three runs.
