Diane Hobin has announced that she will resign as head coach of the Stony Brook softball program effective August 1, Director of Athletics Sandy Weeden has announced.
Hobin, the seventh coach in the history of Stony Brook's 25-year program, compiled a career record of 35-107-1 (.245) in her four years at the helm. This past season, the program's first at the Division I level, the Seawolves posted a 4-31 record.
In 1996, the Seawolves finished 1-20-1 in its first season at the Division II level. Hobin stepped in the next year and led the Seawolves to six wins in her first season. She then went on to lead USB to 25 wins over the next two seasons. In her second season, 1998, the Seawolves recorded a 13-24-1 mark, as the 13 wins tied for the third-highest win total in the program's history.
In 1999, the Seawolves set new standards for offense in their final year at Division II. The team broke six all-time offensive records, including most hits and most runs batted in.
Hobin, who graduated from Hofstra in 1995 with a B.A. in psychology, was a four-year starter for the Flying Dutchwomen's basketball, field hockey and softball teams. She was a two-time North Atlantic Conference first-team selection as well as an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and two-time Mid-Atlantic Regional All-American selection during her career.
