Don Mayerhofer scored two goals and added four assists to lead Penn State to an 18-6 win over Stony Brook in an ECAC Lacrosse League matchup Saturday afternoon at Seawolves Field. The game marked the end of the season for both squads as Penn State improved to 7-7 overall, 3-3 in conference play while Stony Brook ends the 2000 campaign with a 5-11 record, 0-6 in the conference.
Mayerhofer had a goal and assist in the first quarter as Penn State jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but the Seawolves rallied in the final minute of the period to get within 5-3. After Penn State took an 8-4 lead into halftime, Denis Scannell cut the lead to 8-5 two minutes into the second half.
However, Penn State scored the next five goals of the quarter, two by Tim Emmick, to gain control of the game. The Nittany Lions added five goals in the final period to close out the scoring. Will Driscoll and Emmick also turned in an outstanding effort for PSU, each recording three goals and one assist on the afternoon.
For Stony Brook, Jesse Foss and middie Kevin Pall scored twice. Pall's two gaols gave him 34 goals on the season -- the eighth-best single season performance in the program's history. Penn State's Matt Valone made nine saves to earn the win while John Dobias made seven stops for the Seawolv
