Washington, D.C. -
Kerri McCabe scored her fifth goal of the season and Renee Pelletier made seven key saves as Stony Brook remained undefeated (3-0-1) with a 1-1 tie at American (1-1) on Sunday afternoon. The Seawolves are off to their best start since the 1986 season when they started 4-0-1.
McCabe opened the scoring in the 57th minute, taking a deflected ball from Sarah Greenberg and putting it in the net.
It looked as though the Seawolves would escape with the win, but with less than four minutes to go, American's constant offensive pressure finally broke through as Andrea Arkin picked up a deflected corner kick and volleyed it home past Pelletier to force the overtime stanza. The goal ended a string of 317 minutes in which the Seawolves held the opposition scoreless.
Pelletier kept American off the board throughout much of the game, making seven saves on the afternoon.
Stony Brook opens its home campaign against Fordham on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
