Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Stony Brook men's soccer player Dan Ferrin was named to the SoccerAmerica All-Freshman Team, the magazine announced this week. Ferrin was also named to the All-Atlantic Soccer Conference Team after the 2000 season.
Ferrin, who started all 18 games in the goal, played an instrumental role in Stony Brook's 12-4-2 season, the most successful in the program's 37-year history. Ferrin recorded 10 shutouts, setting a school record for most shutouts in a season. The Grosse Pointe, Mich., native was named ASC Goalkeeper of the Week four times throughout the season and registered a GAA of 0.81 in 1663 minutes played, giving up just 15 goals and making 71 saves.
The Seawolves had one of the most successful turnarounds in the country in their second season at the Division I level. After compiling a 4-13-1 record in 1999, Stony Brook went 12-4-2 this past fall, finishing with a 5-2-1 slate in its first year of the ASC. The 12 victories were the most ever for the program, and Stony Brook finished the season ranked fourth in the nation in shutout percentage with 10 shutouts on the year. The Seawolves also cracked the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 four separate times in 2000, the first time a Stony Brook team has been ranked nationally in Division I.
