Women's Tennis Competes At Quinnipiac Invitational

Hamden, CT -- - The Stony Brook women's tennis team continued its fall season at the Quinnipiac Invitational Friday and Saturday. Sophomore Georgia Bushell made it the furthest of any Seawolf player, making the semifinals of flight 'B' singles with a pair of victories.

Stony Brook competed against teams from Rhode Island, UConn, Albany, Hartford, Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart.

Bushell defeated Jaclyn Ott of Albany in the first round, 6-2, 6-3 and beat Connecticut's Colleen Connors, 3-6, 6-3, 11-9. She fell to Quinnipiac's Cristin Arahovites in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-2.

Top singles player Martha Barrett won her first match of the season, defeating Rhode Island's Cynthia Taylor, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Alyssa Schnell and Deanna Ghozati also won first round matches before bowing out .

Ghozati and Schnell got the only doubles victory, defeating Rhode Island's Dwyer and Claphan in the first round of the 'C' flight.

Albany, UConn and Quinnipiac each won two flights of the tournament.

Stony Brook is off until October 12 and 13 when it hosts a four-way tennis tournament with Manhattan, Hofstra, Fairfield and Drexel.
