Men's Hoops Falls To Villanova, 76-54

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Gary Buchanan scored 22 points and Reggie Bryant added 13 as Villanova defeated Stony Brook 76-54 Tuesday night in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Brooks Sales had 12 points and Andrew Sullivan 11 for Villanova (5-2) while Mike Orfini had 16 points and Mike Konopka 15 for the Seawolves (1-8).

Villanova connected on 25 of 46 shots and was 7-of-10 from 3-point range, while Stony Brook made eight of 15 3-point shots but was 9-for-39 from two-point range.

Villanova scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back. The lead reached 18-2 after two 3-pointers by Buchanan with 11:32 left in the first half. The Wildcats held a 39-18 lead at the half, hitting on 14 of 23 shots while Stony Brook hit five of eight treys but missed 19 of 20 from inside the arc.

Stony Brook got to 42-28 four minutes into the second half but could never get any closer.

The Seawolves, of the America East conference, have now lost to three Big East schools (Villanova, Rutgers and St. John's) by a combined total of 78 points.
