Trezza, Flinn, Carle Lead Seawolves To Sweep Of Post

March 31, 2001

Box Score

Brookeville, NY - Alex Trezza homered three times and the Seawolves (12-9, 2-0 NYSBC) got dominating pitching performances from Chris Flinn and Jeremy Carle in a sweep of CW Post (3-11, 0-2 NYSBC) Saturday. The Seawolves won game one, 8-5, and hung on for a 2-1 victory in game two.

Trezza's solo shot in the third increased Stony Brook's lead to 3-0 before Post capitalized on a Stony Brook error and scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Trezza's three-run homerun in the fourth broke a 3-3 tie and gave Stony Brook a 6-3 lead. Post got their only two earned runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Joe Grillo single and a hit batsman with the bases loaded to make the score 6-5.

Two more unearned runs were tacked on in the eighth as the Pioneers' right fielder dropped the ball with the bases loaded that would've been the third out.

Flinn struck out 10 batters in eight innings of work, allowing just four hits (two infield singles) and two earned runs as he improved to 4-2 on the season. He became Stony Brook's all-time wins leader with his 19th career victory. Flinn is now 19-7 in his two-plus seasons with the Seawolves.

Trezza claimed both RBI's in game two with a solo homerun in the first and an RBI double in the third as Stony Brook won, 2-1. Jeremy Carle went the distance, allowing just two hits while fanning nine batters in the game.

Stony Brook and CW Post meet tomorrow in a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. at Seawolves Field.
