Softball Signs Three During Spring

May 3, 2001

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook softball head coach Megan Bryant has signed three players during the spring period for the 2002 season -- Stephanie DiBiase, Marissa Servello and Jane Stein.

Stephanie DiBase, a Hamilton, N.J., native, played both in the field and behind the plate for Notre Dame High School. She was named first-team All-Conference, first-team All-Area, and team MVP in 2000. She also received New Jersey All-State Parochial Team honors. She was a .419 hitter as a junior and posted an on-base percentage of .475, as her team won back-to-back Colonial Conference Championships in 1999 and 2000. In addition, she played for the Philadelphia Freedom of the Amateur Softball Association (ASA).

Marissa Servello has spent the past four seasons as an infielder for Randolph High School in Randolph, N.J. Her fielding percentage of .986 earned her the Golden Glove Award, and she also hit at a .347 clip that season. She is also a member of the ASA Clifton Cobras.

Jane Stein played shortstop and outfielder for Akiba Hebrew Academy in Merion, Pa. As a junior, she hit a phenomenal .825 with an on-base percentage of .837. She was named All-Main Line first-team, All-Penn Jersey first-team and team MVP her junior season. She also played for the Gold NY/NJ Beachgirls of the ASA.

The spring class joins three signees from the fall--Heather Bianchini, Kristen Brust and Colleen McCarthy. The newcomers join the Stony Brook softball team as it comes off the most successful season in its history. The Seawolves finished 21-21, the program's first-ever 20-win season.
